NYX Cosmetics Machinist Collection: Steam

Purchased by me

NYX dropped a new limited edition collection recently called The Machinist Collection inspired by Steampunk.  Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction or science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. It started in the literary world and has spilled over to fashion and makeup. There are three Machinist Eyeshadow Palettes in the collection: Grind, Steam and Ignite, three highlighter duos, three lip lacquers and three lipsticks.

From grungy romantic to vintage beauty, all you need is a spark of inspiration to make the mood your own. Take things to the next level with the other collectibles in this edgy range.” Each palette has a mix of 12 matte and shimmer shades and retails for $25.

Grind is full of warm browns, greens and oranges, perfect for fall.

Ignite has more jewel tones mixed with burgundies

Steam is full of cool-toned purples and greys with a few browns thrown in

I chose Steam in my quest for a cool-toned eyeshadow palette and I’m not disappointed. There are no shade names, just numbers so I will try to describe the colors for you.

Going across top to bottom 1st row:

  • #1 Shimmery Jade
  • #2 Satin Orchid
  • #3 Shimmery Silver
  • #4 Shimmery Gunmetal

Middle Row:

  • #5 Matte White
  • #6 Matte Coral
  • #7 Shimmery Icy Pink
  • #8 Matte Brown

Bottom Row:

  • #9 Shimmery Dove Grey
  • #10 Satin Mauve
  • Taupe
  • #11 Shimmery Burgundy
  • #12 Matte Mid Brown

The shadows apply well but a few of the more shimmery shades, #3, 4 &  7 will need a good base like NYX Glitter Glue. As with most metallics, they are best applied with a wet brush or a finger. The matte shades are nice though I would prefer a bit more pigment. If I had to grade this palette I would give it a B+.

For this look, I used #12 in the crease, #3 the shimmery silver on the lid, #4 shimmery gunmetal on the outer third of the eye and #5 matte white on the brow bone. I then took #3 silver and placed it along the lower lash line.

There are three highlighter duos in the collection: Grind, Ignite and Steam to coordinate with the eyeshadow palettes. I didn’t purchase any of them because I thought they were all too bright for me, I prefer a more subtle highlight.

The collection also includes three lipsticks and three lip lacquers. I chose the lipstick shade Steam to coordinate with the eyeshadow palette. Steam is a rosy bronze with sparkle.

I didn’t purchase any of the lip lacquers either as they aren’t my colors.

Here is my Machinist Steam final look.

Have you tried anything from the NYX Machinist Collection? Do any of the pieces tickle your fancy?
